Drug Court grad returns to court
A CNMI Drug Court graduate who was arrested last week for alleged possession of methamphetamine or “ice” waived his right to a preliminary hearing yesterday. A preliminary hearing is intended to determine if there’s cause to try someone in court.
Robert Camacho Torres, 40, was arrested for allegedly possessing a controlled substance that was found after the car he was a passenger in was stopped by police for a traffic infraction.
Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan ordered Torres to return to court to be arraigned on July 29.
According to Saipan Tribune archives, Torres was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police for running without headlights.
Torres allegedly violated police orders when he was ordered to put his hands on the dashboard while police were searching the vehicle.
Torres was allegedly seen reaching into his right pocket twice and reaching beneath the passenger seat, which led police to ask him to step out of the vehicle.
After multiple attempts to ask the officer why he was being asked to step out of the vehicle, he complied and police found various drug paraphernalia’s and a baggie containing a crystal-like substance beneath the passenger seat.
Police also found a used glass pipe, a yellow lighter, a half-sealed straw, a zip lock bag containing three other zip lock bags, two of which contained crystal like substances that later tested positive for methamphetamine.
