‘A universe of stories’

The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library played host to a total of 110 children ages 6 to 12 years old from July 9 to 19 for the 13th Annual Children’s Collaborative Summer Library Program.
Called “A Universe of Stories,” the camp enabled children to participate in an intensive two-week session filled with reading, science and technology-related activities, exploratory space programs, arts and crafts, music, dance, story exploring activities, field trips, and more.
Participating children read over 50,000 minutes in a span of two weeks.
The winners for the Children’s Summer Reading Program’s Top Readers for “Most Minutes Read.” The Top2 readers ages 6-8 years-old (Session 1) are Yutaka Kadokura (966 minutes) and Alexis Salundaguit (403 minutes).
The Top 2 readers for ages 9-11-years-old (Session 2) are Lucia Concepcion Aldan Deleon Guerrero (4,564 minutes) and Yurong “Amy” Jang (3,406 minutes).
Top readers received gift certificates, book bags, school supplies, magic kits, and a certificate.
Those who were unable to attend the summer program can still participate in independent reading activities at the library. Participants are required to have a JKPL library card with no pending fees or fines, and fill out a reading log.
Registration for the Early Literacy, Teen, and the Adult Reading Program is still ongoing until Friday, Aug. 23, 2019.
You will receive a reading log, which you will need to complete in order to earn prizes.
The public is also invited to join the JKPL Bookmobile Collaborative Summer Library Program. The Bookmobile promotes the library by visiting Saipan’s Youth and Community Centers. JKPL’s Bookmobile Collaborative Summer Library Program Registration is ongoing or until filled.
The program is free and open to children ages 6-12 years, teens ages 13-18 years, and adults.
To participate, they must have a valid library card with no pending obligations. Free lunch will be provided to each of the registered participants at their respective locations (ages 18 and under), courtesy of the Public School System’s Food and Nutrition Service. • Session 2: Tanapag Youth Center, July 30-Aug. 1, 2019, from 1:30pm to 3:30PM
• Session 3: Chalan Kanoa Manhoben Youth Center, Aug. 6-9, 2019, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm
• Session 4: Fernando Benavente Memorial Library (San Antonio), Aug. 13-16, 2019, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm
