Senate confirms Abraham, Maratita to CSC

The Senate confirmed two additional nominations to the NMI’s Civil Service Commission during the continuation of their session Thursday.
The Senate confirmed both Felicitas P. Abraham and Jake U. Maratita to the seven-man CSC, on a vote of 8-0.
Abraham told Saipan Tribune that some of the things she would like to push at the CSC include improved grievance concerns of employees as well as reviewing some laws that automatically convert study years into experience after a certain educational degree is attained.
“…Some jobs may not require two years; some jobs require exposure,” she said. “…We have been working on our class specifications, we are revamping it actually,” she said, referring to some of the concerns the senators brought up during her public hearing.
Abraham would be taking back some notes from the public hearing to review when the CSC reorganizes, including topics such as the sick leave bank.
Grievance concerns are also on the list “before it comes to the CSC, when the employee and his attorney or employer cannot agree to a solution or when the director of personal [maintains a position] and the employee is not happy,” she said.
Some instances include grievance concerns for when an employee applies for a promotion and is not selected.
“We might have to change that,” she said. “Those are some of the things the Senate wants us to look at.”
