The Carolinian Affairs Office is inviting the public to join its lavalava-making camp tomorrow at the Carolinian Utt in Garapan. The camp will be from 9am to 1pm.

CAO project manager Paul Ythemar said they are targeting high school students because lavalava-making is one of the crafts that is slowly losing popularity over time.

A lavalava is a single rectangular cloth worn as a skirt and is traditionally worn by in Oceania. Lavalava-making takes weeks to complete. For beginners, the instruction will take at least one day, and another week to string the banana fiber. Ythemar also mentioned that it may take a couple of weeks to weave the lava lava.

For more information about this event, contact the CAO at (670) 234-6385.
