High surf warning up until 6am today

A high surf advisory is currently in effect in the CNMI until 6am today.
That means high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing localized beach erosion and dangerous swimming conditions.
Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, a monsoon surge is producing hazardous surf in the Marianas and a large southwest swell produced by a monsoon wind surge was projected to produce hazardous surf and a high risk of rip currents last night.
There is a high risk of rip currents along south and west facing reefs until this morning. The hazardous surf of 7 to 9 feet was predicted to subside last night and fall below hazardous levels by this morning.
The public is being advised to avoid venturing out along south and west facing reefs and beaches. Large breaking waves can knock you down and cause serious injuries. If you become caught in a rip current, remain calm. Swim parallel to shore, then back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.
