The U.S. Department of the Interior Office of Insular Affairs may likely provide future funding to improve the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s infrastructure, particularly its power generation, according to CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho.

He told the CUC board that he recently met with OIA director Nikolao I. Pula and his team and they talked existing CUC projects.

Camacho said Pula and his team visited CUC utilities to obtain firsthand information on the current state of CUC’s infrastructure, following Super Typhoon Yutu’s devastation.

He said Pula expressed the possibility that OIA may provide future funding to help improve CUC’s facilities.

Camacho said discussions were focused on CUC’s power generation and power distribution capabilities.

Also present at the meeting were OIA liaison to the CNMI Francisco Taitano, OIA Saipan field representative Harry C. Blanco, and OIA grants management specialist for the CNMI Krystina B. Alfano.
Pula met with Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres and CNMI officials last month to award $2.4 million in Technical Assistance Program and Maintenance Assistance Program funding for the CNMI.
