The Northern Mariana Islands Girl Scouts hosted its first troop meeting last Saturday at the Gualo Rai Youth Center.

The new troops were introduced to the Girl Scouts motto, how the Girl Scouts operate, and the things that the troops will learn over time.

Victoria Adams of the USA Girl Scouts Overseas Japan, informed Saipan Tribune that they will begin selling Girl Scouts cookies this spring. The cookie sales will provide funding for the NMI Girl Scouts.

She mentioned that selling the cookies helps Girl Scouts understand entrepreneurship and money management skills. It also creates opportunities for public speaking and enhances confidence.

The NMI Girl Scouts program was revived by 2018 Miss Marianas Celine Cabrera, who also serves as one of three troop leaders for the NMI Girl Scouts; 2019 Miss Marianas Shannon Sasamoto and Jaki Fujihara are the remaining girl scout troop leaders.

NMI Girl Scouts vice president Laila Boyer thanked the CNMI Office of Youth Affairs for providing the Gualo Rai Youth Center as their meeting place.
