CPA sends $6.6M to CUC
The Commonwealth Ports Authority has transmitted $6.6 million to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. for water and sewer charges on CPA’s main water pump tank account.
The charges on CPA’s main water pump tank account accrued due to a dispute regarding the monthly billings for water and sewer charges. CPA contested the charges, stating the charges were based on incorrect and erroneous estimated daily averages for use and consumption.
“In anticipation of executing an agreement with CUC that will resolve other CPA and CUC disputes, such as CUC’s use of CPA’s property, the construction of the sewer line from [Francisco C. Ada/]Saipan International Airport to the Agingan Wastewater Treatment Plant, assessed wharfage fees at the Port of Saipan, and $7.2 million in ‘back billed’ water charges and penalties, CPA has transmitted $6.6 million for the arrears of water and sewer charges on CPA’s main water pump tank account,” said CPA executive director Chris Tenorio.
“After payment and execution of the agreement between CPA and CUC, CPA will be current with its billings charged by CUC,” added Tenorio.
The amount was sent to CUC last June 20, 2019. (PR)
