Tourist allegedly traumatized by rob try
Suspect arrested during chase in Garapan
A female Japanese tourist was injured when she struggled with a man who allegedly grabbed her purse as she was walking with her husband near the Carolinian Affairs Office in Garapan last week.
The tourist’s husband chased the suspect, Delwin Max Kadisang, 39, who was subsequently arrested by pursuing police officers behind the 99 Cents Store in Garapan.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $30,000 cash bail for Kadisang’s temporary release on charges of attempted robbery, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Camacho allowed the government to take the deposition of the two tourists in a courtroom on Friday afternoon. Deposition is the taking of testimony of a witness outside of court.
The female tourist sustained bruises during the struggle and appeared traumatized. Saipan Tribune saw her crying beside Japan Consulate officials outside the courtroom Friday afternoon.
Kadisang is represented by assistant public defender Eden Schwartz.
Police detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that police officers were dispatched on Wednesday, March 12, at 1pm, to a purse snatching incident by the Sunleader Mart in Garapan.
The victim’s husband chased the suspect who ran east behind Dollar Days. A motorist also joined in the chase.
Department of Public Safety’s Commonwealth Bureau of Investigation detectives apprehended Kadisang behind 99 Cents Store.
The victim told police that she and her husband were walking from the Carolinian Affairs Office heading east when Kadisang came from behind and grabbed her purse. The victim struggled until she managed to grab her purse from Kadisang.
