Liu nominated to MVA board
Thomas T. H. Liu, the former general manager of the defunct Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino, has been nominated to serve as board director of the Marianas Visitors Authority.
In his nomination letter yesterday, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said he and Lt. Gov. Arnold Palacios are confident in Liu’s leadership to carry out the mandates of the board of directors in the governance of the MVA.
Senate President Victor Hocog (R-Rota) referred Liu’s nomination to Sen. Francisco Q. Cruz (R-Tinian), who chairs the Senate Standing Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations, for review and recommendation.
An MVA board director has a four-year term.
When asked for comments about Liu’s nomination, Rep. Joseph “Lee Pan” T. Guerrero (R-Saipan) said Liu is knowledgeable about the tourism industry and is going to be an asset to MVA.
“I hope that the current board members…[will] work together as a team so we can continue to promote the CNMI as a destination [and] improve our tourist arrivals,” Guerrero said.
Liu is the contact person for Globe International Group, which is building a nine-story hotel and two-story villas near a fire station in San Roque.
Liu used to serve as general manager of Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino.
