DPS probes alleged marijuana farm in Kagman
The Department of Public Safety is currently looking into allegations about a marijuana plantation at a home in Kagman, with a police officer recently accused as the owner of the farm.
In an interview with DPS spokesman Adrian Pangelinan, he confirmed that DPS did receive a report about a marijuana plantation in Kagman that allegedly belonged to one of the department’s officers.
He said that allegation against the DPS highway patrol officer is being investigated by both the Drug Enforcement Task Force and DPS internal affairs.
Pangelinan chose not to disclose the name of the officer.
He said the investigation of both the residence and the officer is necessary to cover all DPS bases because it is a serious matter.
Pangelinan added that the accused officer was never charged because he said that he does not even live in the residence anymore and no plants were found after a search of the home.
Pangelinan said the department encourages the community to report marijuana plantations by calling DPS dispatch at 911 or the Crime Stoppers hotline.
Although Gov. Ralph DLG Torres already signed the Taulamwaar Sensible CNMI Cannabis Act of 2018 last year, recreational and medicinal marijuana use of marijuana is still considered illegal in the CNMI until regulations are passed.
DPS is working with the members of the Cannabis Commission to release information that would educate the community about the consequences of using or growing marijuana until official regulations are passed.
