The two groups in the 2019 Civic Center Basketball League are down to four teams each with Far East taking the final semis ticket after ousting Pacific Eco, 72-71, last Saturday in Susupe.
Pacific Eco bagged the last Final Four berth in Group B to join Real Deal, Loving Hands, and Lakay. Group A, on the other hand, has DC, Alberto’s Catering, Brabu, and Marianas Variety.
All eight teams will see action this weekend with Lakay and Real Deal playing in the first semis game at 6pm tomorrow. In the second match at 7pm, DC will take on Brabu, while Loving Hands will battle Far East in the last game of the triple-header at 8pm. On Sunday, Alberto’s will duel Marianas Variety at 6pm.
Mervin Sahagun towed Far East to the semis after scoring 27 points, including 11 markers in the fourth quarter. Jun Rueda, Patrick Salalila, and Jayrlyn also made timely baskets in the final canto to help Far East win the close match. Jayrlyn finished with 15 points, while Rueda added 14.
Arnold Arellano and Web Gontar recorded 19 points each on losing effort for Pacific Eco, while Jess Pineda chipped in 10.
Gontar had a good start, making 9 points in the first period to put Pacific Eco on top, 12-10.
However, his offense slowed down in the last three quarters, while Far East grabbed the upper hand in the second period behind Sahagun and Jayrlyn, who combined for 14 points for their 37-28 advantage at the break.
When the game resumed, Sahagun, who was scoreless in the opening canto, was still at it to keep Far East in the driver’s seat and also delivered in the payoff period to eliminate Pacific Eco.
