66 COVMS students head to high school

A total of 66 students hailing from Kagman’s Chacha Ocean View Middle School head to high school as they were promoted last June 12.
Led by valedictorian Kiyokazu S. Gonzales and salutatorian Richard Lacson, the 66 students graduated at the COVMS campus cafeteria. Gonzales also collected the Board of Education Award and the Business Math, Chamorro-Carolinian Language Heritage Studies, and Computer awards, while Lacson collected the Commissioner of Education Award and the Math, Language, and Woodworking subject awards.
“…I was curious, timid, shy, and scared with a new campus,” Gonzales noted in his valedictorian address, referring to how much he changed over the years. “When I was a 5th grader, it was nerve racking to come into this school clueless of who my teachers were, where my classes were at, and most of all, what my goals were,” Gonzales continued.

“…I got comfortable and familiarized myself with everyone around me,” Gonzales noted.
Lacson shared his award with the rest of his family.
“Although the only name engraved in this plaque is mine, I share this achievement with my family, teachers, and friends that helped me along the way,” he noted in his salutatorian address.
“…This award does not justify who I am today; who I am today is influenced by the companionship from my fellow graduates, knowledge learned from my teachers, and endless support from my family,” he continued.

Besides Gonzales and Lacson, other students were honored for their academic achievements throughout the year per subject.
D’anahlei Rodriguez was awarded the Principal’s Award, Social Studies Award, and the Science Award; to Lucio Aldan the school Leadership Award; and to Angelica Mario the Physical Education and Health Award.
