NMI schools turns focus on digital learning

About 15 teachers from both the Public School System and private schools attended a full-day workshop last June 1 at Kanoa Resort to learn more about the e-learning program, or the Student e-Learning Gateway, which offers online high school courses.
Dr. Bobby Cruz, PSS director of instruction technology, said the program supports nearly 2,000 students annually.
“We’re always excited to convene with our e-teachers. They’re the backbone of the success of the program,” he said.
Cruz worked with PSS’ Lorraine Catienza in leading the workshop.
“It’s important to gather and reflect on our practices, especially those that are instructional, and set goals that will help our student more effectively learn online,” Cruz added.
The digital learning workshop was primarily held to further improve PSS distance learning and its planning.
The program’s mission is “to provide access to quality online education experiences to support digital learners across the CNMI,” while the program’s vision is for PSS to “aspire to be a digital learning community that inspires students to become independent and interconnected learners.”
“The Distance Program is committed to continuous improvement. Each year we work with our e-teachers to assess a range of data that includes student course evaluation. We use the input of the students we serve to refine and improve our offerings to ensure quality teaching and learning,” Catienza noted in a statement.
