Private sector comes to the aid of rehab facility

A group of businesses and individuals recently came together to help those afflicted with the disease of substance abuse, in the hope of reclaiming those employees for the sake of their lives, families, jobs, and the community.
Triple J Enterprises, DFS Ltd., JC Tenorio Enterprises, IT&E, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, Tan Sui Lin Foundation, Safety 1st Systems CNMI, Inc, Viola Alepuyo, and Pauline and Anthony Scraggs recently contributed funds for the purchase of educational and work materials for the Office of the Governor’s Substance Abuse, Addiction and Rehabilitation treatment facility in Marpi.
Yvette R. Sablan, special assistant for SAAR, received the first purchase of $1,200 worth of materials from Hazelden Publishing on June 4, 2019, and her staff began distribution that evening at the HOPE Center in Marpi.
Future materials, as well as training and curriculum, are expected from the Hazelden-Betty Ford Foundation in Center City, Minnesota.
Sablan said that the SAAR program is extremely appreciative of the contributions.
“Partnerships are essential [to] the work of advocacy and community awareness and the donation is an act of effort and commitment from these community members and business sectors. Drug addiction [afflicts] beyond the individual and their homes. The adverse effects reach into our community and we can’t do this work alone,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation to Richard A. Pierce for making this possible for SAAR and the people in recovery, saying the books are significant to the participants’ wellness as it will provide more structure and guidance.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said that private sector partnership has been instrumental in building and strengthening community programs.
“Many of our friends and families need our help and our business community is also aware of the effects this has on our workforce and overall productivity,” Torres said. “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our private sector partners who continue to collaborate with our local programs and help our community heal.” (PR)
