Residents and CNMI businesses representing industries such as hotel and hospitality, retail, manpower, and construction took part in a CNMI Department of Labor community outreach last May 21, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Saipan ballroom.

Labor Secretary Vicky Benavente said the outreach was intended to update the business community and the public about the Labor Department’s procedures, as well as address any questions that they may have regarding labor-related matters in the CNMI.”

CNMI Department of Labor division directors covered a range of topics including the quarterly compliance documents, the posting of job vacancy announcements, the interim final rule from the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration onsite consultation program, the enforcement, compliance, and monitoring rule and regulations, and the Workforce Investment Agency.

Matthew Deleon Guerrero, president of Hive Analytics and chief administrator of the 2019 CNMI Prevailing Wage Survey, was the guest speaker.

He gave an overview of the survey, and informed businesses that a second round of the PWS began on May 9 and ended on May 17, 2019.

The DOL Job Fair was held the next day on May 22, with more than 30 companies participating and nearly 200 job applicants in attendance.

“We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the DOL job fair each year. As we are actively recruiting, this collaboration is a good chance for us to showcase who we are as a company and to be able to speak directly to interested individuals,” said Amanda Ramon, senior human resources specialist at DFS Saipan.

“More candidates showed up today, and also recommended that the job fair should be done more than once a year. It can be held prior to the end of the school year for students who are graduating and staying back,” said Denise Montenegro, Hyatt Regency Saipan’s training manager. (Office of the Governor)
