Volunteers sought for AMP Memorial Day activity
In observance of Memorial Day this Monday, the American Memorial Park will honor all those who died serving in America’s armed forces.
In remembrance of the American servicemen who lost their lives during the World War II Marianas Campaign, park staff invites the public to join the lighting of hundreds of luminaria along the walkway to the Court of Honor. The luminaria will be lit on May 26, 2019, and will remain lit through Memorial Day.
The park needs volunteers this Sunday, May 26, to help place the LED candles in the luminaria leading up to the Court of Honor. This will start at 3:30pm.
On May 27, take time to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. Visit the Court of Honor, which is inscribed with the names of 5,204 servicemen killed or missing in action during World War II. At sunset, pay tribute to the fallen in the glow of over 500 luminarias. Each luminaria represents 10 names inscribed on the Court of Honor. Wreaths made by participating schools will also be on display to honor all servicemen and women who have lost their lives.
During Memorial Day weekend and throughout the year, between the hours of 9am and 4pm, everyone is welcome to the Visitor Center to watch the park film and tour the exhibit. For more information contact Ranger Brooke Nevitt at 234-7207 Ext. 2020 or email her at brooke_nevitt@nps.gov. (NPS)
