Marianas High School 1 was undefeated in the first round of pool play in the 2018-2019 Public School System Boys High School Volleyball Tournament held last Saturday at the MHS Gymnasium.

The Dolphins opened their campaign in the preliminaries with a 25-15 victory over Kagman High School on the north court. For its second game, MHS 1 still played on the north side of the gym and this time eased past Saipan Southern High School, 25-9. For its last two matches over on the south court, MHS 1 had a family affair, but showed no love lost in downing MHS 2 first, 25-8, and topping MHS 3, 25-14.

Meanwhile, after dropping its opening game, Kagman went on to sweep its final three assignments last weekend. The Ayuyus recovered quickly following a double-digit winning margin over the Manta Rays, 25-15. Then against MHS 2, Kagman labored through a 25-22 victory, while the Ayuyus closed out the night with a 25-18 win over MHS 3.

MHS 3 finished pool play ranked fourth with its 1-3 mark, while MHS 2 was a notch ahead with its 2-2 card, and Saipan Southern was at the cellar after failing to win a single match. MHS 3 recorded a 25-18 victory over the Manta Rays, while MHS 2 also defeated the latter, 25-20, and the former, 25-17.

Tinian Junior Senior High School and Dr. Rita H. Inos Junior Senior High School on Rota are also competing in the tournament. Tinian will be joining the second round of the pool play this Friday, while Rota will be seeing action in the playoffs set for June 1. Seeding for the playoffs will be determined after the May 24 pool play.
