Several military trainings set

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Navy will conduct open-ocean exercises on May 23, from 8am to 4pm within a 10-mile radius of the following coordinates: 13˚27’’N/144˚21’’E.

Additional open-ocean exercises will take place on May 25, from 12:01am to 8am and from 4pm to 10pm, and on May 26, from 2am to 8am within a 10-mile radius of the following coordinates: 13˚48’’N/144˚41’’E.

It is recommended the public, fishermen, and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.

The U.S. Navy will also conduct training on May 24, from 7am to 8pm, and on May 26, from 7am to 11:59pm, at the island of Farallon de Medinilla.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be within a 12-nautical mile radius of the island.

Naval Special Warfare Group 1 will conduct close quarters combat training on May 24-26, from 7am to 6pm, at Radio Barrigada.

These types of trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training. The public should be advised that the use of blanks can occur during training at Radio Barrigada.

Units participating in Exercise Pacific Vanguard will conduct training daily on May 23-28, from 12:01am to 11:59pm, at Warning Area 517 (W-517).

W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00”N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks will be open for public use. W-517 begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. (PR)
