Guam seminar on minimum wage impacts
The University of Guam’s Regional Center for Public Policy will be hosting a re-search seminar on the topic of minimum wage impacts on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, from 11am to 1pm, at the main ballroom of Hyatt Regency Guam. The cost to attend the seminar is $22. Refreshments to be provided.
The featured speaker will be Dr. Roseann Jones, professor of economics at the University of Guam with a presentation titled “Another Look at Minimum Wage: Cur-rent, Past, and Future.”
Minimum wage is making headlines again—this time with a bit of good news about jobs, the economy, and wages. The average wage of lower income workers in the United States has increased by 6 percent, with a forecast that job stability will continue in the near term. Guam is also taking another look at minimum wage, with senators in-troducing a bill on May 13 to raise Guam’s minimum wage to $8.75 per hour by March 1, 2020, and to $9.25 by March 1, 2021.
This presentation offers a look at the national discussion, a reflection on Guam’s minimum wage at $8.25, and the outlook for minimum wage at $9.25. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.
