NMC now offers bachelor’s in criminal justice
The Northern Marianas College and University of Guam inked a memorandum of agreement yesterday that would enable the CNMI college to offer a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
The MOA was signed at the Office of the Governor on Capital Hill, with interim NMC president Frankie Eliptico, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, and UOG president Thomas Krise signing the document.
That means NMC can now offer a bachelor’s degree program in criminal justice. Before that, NMC only offered an associate degree for the course. Incidentally, that degree program has the highest student population at the college.
Krise explained that the agreement allows students to take up the course at NMC for three years and then one more year at UOG to get the bachelor’s degree.
Eliptico later noted that UOG would be sending some of its faculty to NMC so that students may not have to leave the island to get the bachelor’s degree.
“This is the first of many partnerships that we will be having with UOG in terms of diversifying and broadening the types of programs that we have at the college for all the workforce needs we have here in the CNMI,” he said.
“We are really looking forward to introducing other programs such as this that touches on other areas needed on Saipan, Rota, and Tinian,” adding that the college would like to have a focus on business administration, and management, among others.
“This should help CNMI students because you can finish a bachelor’s degree without having to leave,” Krise said. “We…hope this is a model for future collaborations.”
