The All Schools Track and Field Championships is one of the few successful grassroots sports programs in the CNMI, thanks to its supporters led by McDonald’s Saipan.
McDonald’s has been the main corporate sponsor of the All Schools meet since 2005, helping the organizing Northern Marianas Athletes discover student-athletes who eventually represent the Commonwealth in regional and international competitions.
“McDonald’s has been our consistent supporter. Every year, since 2005, they are with us, giving significant contribution so that we can hold this annual event. Without our partnership with McDonald’s and other sponsors, it will be very difficult to keep this program running,” NMA president Ray Tebuteb said.
Tebuteb along with NMA officials Robin Sapong and Greg Iginoef and Public School System Athletic director Nick Gross received the $3,000 check donation from McDonald’s Saipan/Guam managing director and owner Marcia Ayuyu for the All Schools meet that concluded its elementary competition last weekend and will have the middle and high school events this Friday and Saturday. The donation turnover ceremony was held last Monday at McDonald’s Middle Road.
“The PSS/McDonald’s All Schools is our grassroots program—this is the backbone of CNMI athletics. Without this program, there won’t we continuity in our development. We will not be able to send athletes to off-island competitions, so we would like to thank McDonald’s and all our supporters for helping us keep and strengthen this program,” the NMA head added.
Ayuyu vowed to continue the company and his family’s commitment to the All Schools event.
“I, my husband, and our children have a heart for a program that benefits the kids. Through this program, we are able to encourage our children to stay active and get involved in sports,” Ayuyus said.
“It’s always great to see our children going out there, competing, and doing their best. To the parents, keep encouraging your children to play sports, be there at the track, cheer, and support them,” she added.
