Poker robbery suspect pleads not guilty
Artemia Gabayeron pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges that she robbed a poker arcade over two weeks ago.
Gabayeron, 51, through Stephanie Boutsicaris of the Office of the Public Defender, submitted a plea of not guilty before Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert Naraja.
Bouticaris waived the reading of charges and constitutional right of Gabayeron while still preserving all her rights.
Heather Barcinas, acting chief prosecutor and lawyer for the government, had no complaints.
Naraja ordered Gabayeron to return to court on June 5 at 9am for a status conference.
Gabayeron remains in prison after she failed to post the $20,000 bail.
The Superior Court set the bail last April 15.
Gabayeron is facing multiple charges, including robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.
Gabayeron was allegedly caught on surveillance footage robbing the Royal Poker gaming arcade in Oleai last April 11. Gabayeron was reportedly seen entering the arcade and leaving after robbing the female cashier of exactly $649. She allegedly threatened her at knifepoint.
The suspect allegedly walked into the establishment between 6:30am and 6:45am after security guard had left and made sure that there were no other people inside the establishment before proceeding with the robbery.
The suspect called the cashier for assistance first before forcing her way into the cashier’s area and holding the cashier at knifepoint.
A short struggle occurred before the suspect was able to open the cash register and grab a handful of cash valued at $649.
The suspect then fled the establishment, going south toward Oleai.
Gabayeron was apprehended two days later at her home.
Court information mentions that a human resources representative from a Susupe hotel where she worked at helped police identify Gabayeron through photos from the surveillance footage, confirming that it was, in fact, Gabayeron and directed police to Gabayeron’s residence in As Terlaje.
Aside from identification by her employer, Gabayeron was also identified by the victim in a six-person lineup.
