William S. Reyes Elementary School, Kagman, and Koblerville got more than 10 qualifying slots each in the U9 age group competition of the 2019 Public School System/McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships.

The Kingfishers bagged the most berths in the All Schools meet that will be held on May 3 and 4 at the Oleai Sports Complex after earning 12 in the girls trials and 10 in the boys division. The Marlins collected 17 (15 in the girls), while the Umangs were given 14 (10 in the girls division). Other schools that will be fielding students in the 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m runs, long jump, and softball throw were Brilliant Star School (11), Saipan International School (9), San Vicente (8), Mt. Carmel School (7), Agape Christian School (6), and Saipan Community School (4). The qualifiers list is still subject to changes, pending confirmation from the organizing PSS and Northern Marianas Athletics and coaches/representatives of the participating schools. Rota and Tinian also have one entry each in the different events.

WSR has the most qualifiers in the softball throw with Rhia Hernandez, Zaria Camacho, and Aubrey Castro making the grade in the series of trials last month. In the long jump, Kagman dominated the field with its five qualifiers—Tsudomiko Joab, Tina Chipwelong, Aaliyah Cosmes, Paige Blanco, and Joelene Cabrera. Kagman also led the way in the 200m run with four qualifiers, while Cabrera, Blanco, and Cosmes will run, too, in the 100m finals for the Marlins.

In the boys division, Koblerville has three students on the finalists list in the 400m run with Ashley Kasian and Jellydia and Jellydiah Hong qualifying, while the remaining running events will be an open race among private and public schools.

In the boys division, the 60m run has qualifiers from seven schools with San Vicente the only one with two entries. Students from eight schools will race in the 100m and 200m events, while WSR has seven qualifiers in the three remaining running contests (400m, 800m, and 1,500m).

Mt. Carmel, WSR, and SCS each have two students on the finalists list in the long jump, while Koblerville has three in the softball throw.
