Over 60 runners join SDA 5K Hope Run

More than 60 runners participated in the 10th Annual Saipan Seventh Day Adventist School 5K Hope Run held last April 14.

Perennial middle distance races winner Kosuke Sato led the finishers list of the run that started at the Garapan Fishing Base and ended at Micro Beach, as he clocked in at 20:48.

Sato was awarded a medal along with the Top 10 finishers overall (men and women’s combined). Charlie Sendin timed in at 21:33 to rank second and was followed by Ayano Braxton (23:50), Frank Diesta (24:33), Steven Pixley (24:48), Eric Mahinay (25:20), Aris Oris (25:41), Chiharu Sato (27:19), Floro Derexes (28:09), and J.J. Sablan (28:21).

In the 14 and under age group, Taiga Scoggins was the first finisher after checking in at 28:27. Joining him in the Top 10 were Tiana Cabrera (29:11), Rex Pixley (29:55), Gabriel Pelardo (30:54), Gwampil Son (31:09), Sephson Lakjohn (31:27), Melvin Han (32:29), Kazuki Kamegai (37:55), Kyle Diesta (38:01), and Michelle Chen (38:40).

“We want to thank all the runners, parents, and overall supporters that made this event possible. The school is especially grateful to Saipan SDA Clinic for matching the amount raised for this event for a grand total of $9,480. Thank you for your continued support to our school,” SDA School public relations assistant Dorlin Duran said.

The entire proceeds from the event will go to the Hope Run Scholarship, which provides financial aid to SDA students.
