The Society for Human Resource Management will have its April general membership meeting today, April 10, at Charley’s Cabaret at Pacific Islands Club-Saipan beginning at 11:30am.

The meeting will feature Donald Clark, chairman of the Guam and CNMI Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve. Clark will discuss ESGR services in the CNMI as well as the Uniformed Services Employment & Reemployment Rights Act, including how USERRA affects employment and the rights and responsibilities of employers under USERRA. This labor law may be complicated and confusing, yet relevant, for many employers in the CNMI.

Clark will also discuss how to build or improve relationships with your employee’s military supervisors or managers.

Also, representatives from CNMI Labor Department will outline the changes in the CNMI Labor JVA (job vacancy announcement) website and certification process.

Alex Sablan, president of the Northern Marianas Business Alliance Corp., will provide an update on the status of the Prevailing Wage Survey and ongoing discussions with U.S. Department of Labor regarding the interim final rules.

Today’s SHRM meeting is open to the public. The presentation includes the PIC Magellan lunch buffet at the cost of $20 for SHRM members and $30 for non-members. Reserve your seat by contacting Penny Jones by email at penelope.jones@hyatt.com or Denise Montenegro at denise.montenegro@hyatt.com or by telephone at 323-5867/68.  (SHRM)
