$100K bail for ex-DETF informant for ‘ice’ possession

A bail of $100,000 has been set for a former informant of the Drug Enforcement Task Force who has been caught in possession of methamphetamine or “ice.”

Gordon Aldan Castro, 30, was arrested for alleged “ice” possession and trafficking following a sting operation the task force staged back in January.

Castro is a former task force informant and cooperating source who has since failed to contact law enforcers.

Even though he is not a flight risk, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho retained Castro’s cash bail at $100,000 last Thursday because he has a prior conviction.

Camacho scheduled Castro’s preliminary hearing today and his arraignment is scheduled for April 8, 2019.

In a declaration of probable case, the CNMI government asked the Superior Court to unseal the documents relating to Castro’s case, revoke the stipulation releasing him on his own recognizance, and re-impose the $100,000 cash bail.

Castro has since been remanded back to the Department of Corrections following his arrest last March 27.

Castro used to be a confidential informant but was no longer communicating with the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force, according to the government.

When Castro was first arrested last Feb. 27, he waived his constitutional rights and offered to assist as a confidential informant, the government said.

The government then asked the court to file under seal all documents and pleadings filed in connection with Castro’s case to protect the confidentiality and integrity of ongoing drug or narcotic investigations.

According to court information, the task force conducted a “buy-walk” operations to catch Castro in the act. The operation was conducted on Jan 23, 2019.

During the organized operation, a DETF cooperating source identified Castro as the individual who sold him narcotics worth $50.
