Earth Hour 2019 set for Saturday

Share

Over the weekend, the world will witness 24 of the most inspiring hours for the environment, as people around the world come together for Earth Hour.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, for the past 10 years, people around the world have come together every Earth Hour to support efforts to tackle climate change. And, together, we have created a powerful movement that helped deliver strong global commitments to tackling this threat.

Climate change remains a big challenge for us all. But another urgent threat now demands our attention: the loss of nature. These two combined threats mean we must act—and now.

The Guam Energy Office is encouraging everyone to participate in Saturday, March 30 beginning at 8:30pm. For just one (1) hour, turn off all unnecessary lights Earth Hour 2019 on inside and outside your home. Various hotels and restaurants in Guam are also joining this movement and have committed to a variety of conservation methods by turning off outside lights, notifying their guests to turn off in-room lights and dimming restaurant lights in exchange for candlelight dinners for guests.

Hotels and local businesses who participate will be acknowledged in one of GEO’s media print ads in the month of April during the promotion of Earth Month. Let us know if your establishment will be participating by calling the Guam Energy Office at 646-4361 or visit our Facebook page. You can also post your participation on social media and hashtag #guamearthhour2019. For more information about this release, please feel free to contact Rebecca Respicio, GEO Director at 646-4361 or via email at rebecca.respicio@energy.guam.gov. (PR)
