Precinct 2 Reps. Christina Sablan (Ind-Saipan) and John Paul Sablan (R-Saipan) expressed their appreciation to the numerous volunteers and partners who participated in the cleanup of coastal and residential areas in Chalan Kanoa and Susupe earlier this month.

More than 150 volunteers and over a dozen community organizations turned out on March 16 for the precinct’s first “Beautify Our Villages” project, which was hosted by the two representatives. In just two hours, volunteers removed 2,660 lbs of trash and typhoon debris from the precinct’s coastal and residential areas.

“Rep. John Paul and I are deeply grateful for the community’s support in this first cleanup,” Christina Sablan said. “It was inspiring to see such a diverse group of people come together for a good cause.”

The participating organizations included the Saipan Mayor’s Office, Marianas Visitors Authority, Department of Public Safety, Office of Rep. Ed Propst (Ind.-Saipan), Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, Commonwealth Health Care Corporation, WSR Elementary School and their MyWave Club, Hopwood Middle School and their environmental club, Marianas High School, Mt. Carmel School, the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance, Saipan Chamber of Commerce, NMI Rollers Association, Ol’Aces, Marianas Basketball Association, Miss Earth Northern Marianas, Beyond Limits 670, and Let’s Go Tour Company.

“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all the awesome volunteers, government agencies, groups and organizations who joined our village and beach cleanup on March 16th,” J.P. Paul Sablan said.

“There are more cleanup events that we are planning in the near future and we will continue to solicit your help and support. Thank you!” he added.

The Precinct 2 representatives are now collaborating on next month’s project. April is Environment Month, and planning is underway for community tree plantings and another village cleanup the week of Earth Day, April 22.
