In support of The Marianas’ continued recovery from Super Typhoon Yutu, 10 leading Korean celebrities, corporate executives, and national athletes joined the Marianas Charity/Friendship Golf Tournament 2019 on Saipan last Feb. 24, 2019.

The tournament, organized by the Marianas Visitors Authority and held at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort, aimed to showcase the islands and promote Saipan as a golf paradise with beautiful natural scenery.

Participants included Korean top actors Lee Jung Jin, Lee Jae Ryong, Park Kwang Hyun, Lee Sang Hoon; former national basketball player Woo Ji Won; composer Joo Young Hoon, and several corporate representatives.

“With its beautiful coastal cliffs alongside the deep blue Pacific Ocean, Laolao Bay Golf & Resort is a stunning course, and the tournament received positive feedback from participants,” said MVA Managing Director Christopher A. Concepcion. “We’re happy to hear they were very satisfied with the tournament, and we will use this occasion in continuing to position The Marianas as an ideal golf destination for golfers from around the globe.”

On the opening day of the golf tournament, CNMI Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, MVA Board Member Christopher J. Nelson, and Concepcion personally welcomed the Korean delegation. An awards ceremony and banquet were held after the tournament, with the champion receiving a roundtrip ticket from Seoul Incheon to Saipan while other winners received various gifts and prizes supported by T Galleria by DFS. At a brief donation ceremony, the participants presented 10 million KRW—around $9,000—in cash and other donations to the Lady Diann Torres Foundation to aid individuals still recovering after the typhoon.
