Five out of nine winners of the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest announced by Atkins Kroll Toyota Saipan last March 9, 2019, are from Grace Christian Academy.
GCA artists also won the Top 3 places in each of the three age categories.
One of the top 19 international art contests, Toyota Dream Car Contest invites all children around the globe to share their ideas about the future of mobility by drawing their dream car.
GCA art contest winners shared ideas about how future cars would look.
GCA first grader En Mei Huang, who won a gold award in the 7-and-under category, said that her dream car is very big and sturdy. It has a special camera that can take pictures outside if there is typhoon like Super Typhoon Yutu.
GCA fourth graders swept all the Top 3 winners in the ages 8-11 category, winning gold, silver, and bronze awards.
Ashley Han’s gold-winning dream car can go underwater without the use of gasoline. “It can help in cleaning under the ocean,” she said.
Justin Ma’s silver award-winning dream car can also go underwater. “It has a light than can communicate with sea animals. It also contains a suit that people can use,” he said.
Ashley Hans’ twin brother, Alvin Hans, won a bronze medal with a dream car that can fly. Powered by electricity, he said, “It can help clean the air.”
Akira Ota, who is a GCA 7th grader and won a gold medal in the 12-15 age category, said his dream car was inspired by Elon Musk, the lead designer of SpaceX. “I want to build a cheaper rocket, so why not make a car that can withstand the atmosphere like a rocket. A cheaper rocket.”
The artwork of all GCA gold awardees will be submitted to the world contest that will be held in Japan. In the world contest, these entries selected from each country and region will be judged by a jury panel, where award winners will be selected for the gold, silver, and bronze awards, along with finalists.
One winner from the Guam and Saipan winners will be included in the 30 world contest winners who, together with his or her parents or guardians, will be selected travel to Japan for four days in August 2019. The winners can expect many wonderful surprises, including a special meeting with Toyota president Akio Toyoda.
GCA’s K-5th grade art teacher Esther Manzano, the winner’s parents, administration, teachers, and students of GCA are very happy for these artists’ accomplishments. (PR)
