AGAT, Guam—The Agat Marina here was reopened to traffic at 12:15pm yesterday following an earlier closure due to a report of a suspicious package. The Coast Guard statement did not identify the package but said it was not a threat.

At 8:59am, Cmdr. Joshua Empen, acting commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam and Captain of the Port, established a safety zone enforcement of 500 yards in the vicinity of Agat Marina following report of a suspicious package at the marina.

All precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the public and all responders.

U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service personnel were also on-scene with local and federal authorities to further investigate the nature of the equipment found. A Department of Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit assisted and confirmed the package was not a threat.

Local law enforcement conducted additional sweeps of the harbor. The suspicious package will be turned over to the FBI.

As a reminder, do not approach, touch, or move any suspicious package. Carefully leave the area, contact 911, and provide information based on anything observed. (PR)
