Rex Sorensen, founder, president, and chairman of the Sorensen Media Group, passed away last Sunday. He was 73.

Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio issued the following statement: “We join the people of Guam in mourning the passing of Rex Sorensen, the pioneer and founder of talk radio on our island. I’ve known Rex for many years and I always regarded him as great friend with a kind heart—a businessman who always gave back to our community. His legacy is in his vision and passion for our island and region to have the best in broadcast and entertainment. I send my heartfelt condolences to Mimi and Rex’s children and will be praying for them during this difficult time,” said Governor Leon Guerrero.

“Many of our people will remember the voices behind the microphone, the moderators of our conversations, the entertainers of our time, but we will never forget the man who forged the airwaves and opened up a platform for the broadcasting legends of our island. We will always be grateful to Rex Sorensen for strengthening our bond as a community, ” added Tenorio.

Guam Legislature Speaker Muña Barnes also issued the following statement: “Today we mourn the loss of a dear friend, a pioneer in the field of media broadcasting on Guam and the CNMI—Mr. Rex Sorensen. To Mimi, and his children, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your loved one. Rex, through the Sorensen Media Group, has touched the lives of every Guam resident: whether it be through being a part of their daily routine during their morning commute to work or the evening news, or even during typhoons, by keeping our people updated with critical information. As a policy maker— Rex, I see your legacy live on through the invaluable mentorship that you have provided to Senators who I have been honored to call my colleagues, as well as staffers within my office and our government. On behalf of the 35th Guam Legislature and the People of Guam, Un Dangkolo Na Si Yu’us Ma’ase Rex for being a part of our community and for all you have done for our island.” (Saipan Tribune)
