Precinct 2 reps call for cleanup volunteers
Precinct 2 Reps. Christina Sablan (Ind-Saipan) and John Paul Sablan (R-Saipan) are hosting a cleanup in Chalan Kanoa and Susupe this Saturday, March 16, from 8am to 11am. Both lawmakers are working in collaboration with numerous community partners, and all volunteers are welcome.
The meeting point is at Sugar Dock Beach at 8am, and volunteers will fan out along the beaches and into residential areas from there. The cleanup event wraps up with refreshments back at Sugar Dock.
“This Saturday’s event is the first in a series of community efforts to beautify and build pride in our villages,” said Rep. Christina Sablan.
“The Saipan Mayor’s Office, [Department of] Public Works, [Division of] Parks and Recreation, and other partner agencies have done a great job removing much of the big debris left behind by Super Typhoon Yutu. But there is still quite a lot of loose litter and smaller debris all over our villages that residents of all ages can help clean up.
“So my colleague John Paul and I decided to organize this initiative, and we are encouraging community members to come out on March 16 and show some love for the place we live,” she added.
“I commend our community members for their resiliency and hard work in helping recover and rebuild in our villages from the destruction of Super Typhoon Yutu,” Rep. John Paul Sablan said.
“There is still a lot of debris in our villages and I, along with my colleague, Rep. Tina Sablan, are humbly asking our community members to join us this Saturday [March 16] in continuing our efforts in cleaning and beautifying our villages and beaches,” he added.
Reps. Christina Sablan and John Paul Sablan also thanked the following partners for their support and participation in this Saturday’s cleanup event: the Saipan Mayor’s Office, Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, Marianas Visitors Authority, Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance, Saipan Chamber of Commerce, WSR Elementary School and the My Wave Club, Mount Carmel School, Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, Beyond Limits Car Club, NMI Rollers Basketball Association, and Miss Earth Northern Marianas.
Volunteers are asked to wear light or bright clothing for roadside visibility. Water, gloves, trash bags, hand sanitizer, and refreshments will be provided.
