Carol competes in 3 tourneys in Morocco
The CNMI’s Carol Lee has started her three-tournament tour in Morocco.
The junior player first competed in the Mediterranée Avenir/J1 Casablanca and won her opening singles match last Tuesday at the Club Olympique Casablanca. She swept Morocco’s Yasmine Kabba, 6-4, 6-2, to march into the Round of 32 of the Grade 1 event that awards 280 ranking points to the singles champion.
In the second round, Lee was paired against Slovenia’s Pia Lovric and the former battled the latter toe-to-toe in the first set before losing, 6-7 (5). Lovric then took advantage of the gassed out Lee in the second set to cruise to a 6-0 triumph.
The Commonwealth bet also played in the doubles contest of the J1 Casablanca and teamed up with Poland’s Aleksandra Julia Jelen. The Lee-Jelen duo was pitted against the No. 2 seed Francesa Curmi of Malta and Sada Nahimana of Burundi and the latter pair won, 7-5, 6-2.
After the Mediterranée Avenir, Lee will play in the ITF/CAT North African Circuit, starting this weekend at the Oceanic Club Casablancais. The competition will run until March 23 and it is a Grade 3 event where as much as 100 ranking points (singles) and 75 (doubles) can be won.
For her third and last tournament in Morocco, Lee will travel to Mohammedia for the Raquette D’Or 2008, another Grade 3 event that will take place at the Royale Tennis Club de Mohammedia from March 25 to 30.
The 17-year-old player is competing in a series of Juniors ITF events as part of her activities at the International Tennis Federation/Confederation of African Tennis Regional Training Centre.
