Bench warrant out for man who had reportedly fled
A bench warrant has been issued for a man who is believed to have fled Saipan after he failed to show up in court to face charges of theft.
Superior Court Presiding Judge Roberto Naraja issued Monday the bench warrant of $5,000 for the arrest of Aris Maderal Olivos, 42.
Olivos failed to appear for his arraignment last March 4. Multiple sources said that Olivos had left the island back in February after he received a penal summons that was personally delivered to him.
Olivos allegedly robbed the Saipan Vegas Golf Resort and Slot Club of over $20,000 back in June 2018.
It is believed that Olivos used to work at the Saipan Vegas Golf Resort and Slot Club, but the establishment has yet to confirm this with the Saipan Tribune.
The Commonwealth, through acting chief prosecutor Heather Barcinas, asked the court to issue the bench warrant.
According to court information, on or between May 27, 2018, and June 1, 2018, Olivos allegedly stole approximately $20,697.36 in vouchers and U.S. currency from Saipan Vegas Golf Resort & Slot Club in Chalan Laulau.
As the property stolen has a value of more than $20,000, the theft charge is punishable by a maximum 10 years imprisonment.
