Man in ‘ice’ trafficking case asks for no trial
A man who was allegedly found in possession and trafficking of methamphetamine is seeking a non-trial disposition of his case.
Benjamin Jason Inos Manglona, 38, was charged with illegal possession and trafficking of a controlled substance following a routine inspection at the commuter terminal of the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport back in 2017.
At a hearing last week before Superior Court Presiding Judge Roberto Naraja, defense attorney Matthew Gregory said Manglona is asking for a non-trial disposition of his case.
According to an online source, a non-trial disposition request is defined as a request to somehow resolve the case without a trial. It could be anything from a guilty plea agreement to withdrawal of the charges by the prosecutor.
Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds, who appeared for the government, did not oppose the request.
Naraja scheduled Manglona for a status conference on April 23 at 1:30pm.
Court information state that Manglona was stopped at the airport commuter terminal on April 25, 2017, after he was found in possession of methamphetamine or “ice” on his departure flight to Rota. The drugs were allegedly discovered following a routine pat-down inspection.
On April 28, 2017 Manglona was released to a third-party custodian after posting a property bond.
