Kanoa Resort now offers flexible high-speed WiFi

The Kanoa Resort Saipan has partnered with IT&E to offer flexible, high-speed data to its international and local guests.

The hotel claims they are the first to offer flexible, high- speed internet.

With the partnership, Kanoa offers high-speed internet to all rooms, provide internet connections to functions and events held at the resort, and Kanoa can even control the speed of the internet they provide to their consumers.

Kanoa Resort general manager Martin Jambor said the partnership enables the resort to offer internet speed with no limits.

“The speed now—the sky is the limit. We are the first hotel to establish this kind of partnership and I’m very proud of it. We actually tested it for the last six months without any problems. We could really compare how it was from before,” he said.

IT&E CEO Jim Oehlerking reiterated that this is the company’s first partnership with a hotel. IT&E works with hotel and create a long-term five-year relationship where they’d manage the resort’s WiFi network.

“In this relationship, we take care of all of that for them and we provide them statistics on usage, capacity, and their customers’ experience…as opposed to just giving them equipment and they have to take care of it. This allows us to work with the hotel and, if they want to change it (internet speed) and increase it, we can do it very dynamically. If there’s, like, a high-level occupancy or events here, we can provide them more bandwidth in a very dynamic fashion, as opposed to just setting up a contract of just this much, no matter what. It’s an interactive relationship between us and the hotel management,” he said.

Oehlerking said the internet performance that Kanoa now offers is the same as what could be expected from Korea or even Japan.

“I think that, with the importance of the tourism industry here and the requirement and demand for communication, they’re used to a [certain] internet speed and access. We wanted to make sure that in Kanoa, we were putting up a world-class solution that was similar to what they would be seeing in Seoul or in Japan and I think we’ve been able to accomplish that,” he said.

Jambor said that when he became general manager in 2017, the resort’s internet performance was just not acceptable and he made it a priority to ensure that Kanoa Resort guests would be provided with the best possible internet on island.

“When I started here…[the] infrastructure for internet cabling was very poor and it did reflect on the service, so we really had an issue. Customers from Korea and China…come with expectations. It’s the 21st century and they expect to be well connected to social media and, unfortunately, we had serious issues. In some rooms, we couldn’t get them connected. You’d have to walk to the lobby. It was a very poor situation for the resort, so it was my top priority to fix. After approaching different companies, IT&E was willing to partner with us, they really got my vision, and now we have access points in every room and I believe that, through IT&E, we now have the fastest internet on island compared to every other resort,” he said.
