Reward for info on tagged fish

The Division of Fish and Wildlife is offering prizes and rewards to fishermen who call in tagged fish that they catch.

According to fisheries biologist Trey Dunn, the reward for information on tagged emperor (mafute) fish will only be given away during the tagging study period that will conclude in July.

Dunn said the rewards include a T-shirt and an entry into their raffle.

The fisherman will be able to take home their catch after DFW gets the data needed like growth, weight, length, etc.

Fish will have a visible pink tag near the fin on top of the fish. The tag will include a tag number and a phone number for DFW’s Fisheries section.

Upon contacting DFW Fisheries, fishermen should provide the tag number, date caught, location caught, length, and weight of the fish.

Fisheries is conducting the fish tagging study on food fish in the Saipan lagoon. The purpose of the study is to determine the contribution of common reef food fish to adjacent commercial, sport, and subsistence fisheries.
