MVA Rota giant sign ready for installation; lines up several projects to attract tourists

The Marianas Visitors Authority has several ongoing destination enhancement projects to attract tourists on Rota, including a giant destination sign that is ready for installation.
MVA managing director Christopher Concepcion said yesterday that the giant Rota destination sign is similar to the huge signs that they’ve installed on Saipan and Tinian.
Concepcion said the Rota sign has a different design.
MVA is waiting for the Department of Public Lands to authorize the installation on roadside public land.
“We expect to receive approval next month,” the managing director said.
He also disclosed that they are renovating the Bird Sanctuary, Mount Sabana Peace Memorial, and working on Mount Sabana 360 project with Rota Mayor Efraim M. Atalig.
Concepcion said they brought in TV company SBS from South Korea to film the Law of the Jungle reality TV show.
“It’s similar to the Survivor series in the U.S.,” he said.
MVA also brought in eight media and travel agents from Russia a few months ago to promote Rota and Tinian.
Concepcion said one participant in this familiarization trip is famous Instagram model and blogger Valeria Shapovalova, who has over 100,000 followers.
Concepcion said they also hosted a digital influencer familiarization from South Korea a few months ago to promote Bisita Luta and the Rota fiesta.
“Their work was published in Travie magazine, a popular travel magazine in Korea,” he said.
Concepcion disclosed that next week they have KBS TV company going to Rota to film a TV show called Live Information which will highlight the island’s historic sites.
KBS TV will also cover the Saipan Marathon.
MVA hosts or co-hosts the Rota Cliff Fishing Derby, Rota Coconut Festival, Rota Sweet Potato Festival, Rota Fiesta, Rota Coffee Fun Run, and other smaller events.
