CCA re-elects four board members, officers

The Commonwealth Cancer Association announced yesterday the re-election of four members to the CCA board of directors: Nora R. Sablan, Cesar Dumatol, Malua T. Peter, and Alicia DLG Guerrero. They were all re-elected to new two-year terms. The election took place at the meeting of the CCA board on Jan. 17, 2019, at the CCA conference room in Gualo Rai.

A separate election for CCA officers was held on Feb. 19, 2019, which saw the re-election of Roman “Bo” T. Palacios as president, the re-election of Nora R. Sablan to serve as vice president, the re-election of Tina Marie M. Aguon as secretary, and the re-election of Cesar Dumatol as treasurer.

The CCA began as an alliance of volunteers in 2003 and became formally chartered and incorporated in 2008. In 2009, CCA achieved a tax-exempt status under 501 (c)(3) and since then has been providing direct client financial assistance for qualifying assistance such as nutritional supplements and other personal needs, and offers certain types of medical equipment, e.g., hospital beds, wheelchairs, oxygen concentrator, etc. as prescribed by a licensed physician in the CNMI to those individuals who are receiving treatment for cancer.

CCA also facilitates monthly cancer survivors support group meetings, and engages in various awareness and outreach activities and has produced various educational publications such as brochures, fliers and DVDs for our diverse community.

CCA organizes community events such as cervical cancer, oral cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and lung and pancreatic cancer awareness, to mention a few. CCA also engages in programs such as early screening and detection, and patient navigation. CCA has partnered with the University of Guam on its Betel Nut Intervention Trials Project.
