School sports wrap up

School competitions concluded last week with Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization wrapping up the girls volleyball and boys basketball leagues and the Coalition of Private School Sports Association ending its girls and boys basketball leagues.
In the MISO volleyball, Marianas High School and Grace Christian Academy finished the regular season tied for first place with their similar 15-1 records. The Lady Dolphins went on to win the tiebreak (sets won) and also defeated the Lady Eagles in the finals. Other schools that joined the league were Saipan International School and Kagman High School, which fielded junior varsity and varsity teams, Saipan Southern High School, and Mount Carmel School.

In the MISO caging, MHS also finished on top of the regular season and then survived Kagman High School in the finals to end its four-year title drought.

In the COPSSA league, Whispering Palms and Mt. Carmel duked it out in the girls middle school finals, while the Knights battled the Grace Christian Academy Eagles in the boys title tiff at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. Results of both matches will be reported in Saipan Tribune later this week.

Meanwhile, ongoing leagues on Saipan continued their games last week.
In the Major division of the Saipan Little League Baseball, the Enforcers recorded the biggest win last week after stunning the then undefeated Hustlers. Also earning wins last week were the Comets I, Falcons, IT&E, and the Braves.

In the Junior League, the Fielders and the Falcons got separate wins, while the Comets had a 13-inning standoff against the Enforcers. In the Senior League, the Braves and the Enforcers coasted to victories, while the four teams in the Big League split their matches at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

Over at the TSL Sports Complex, the Sun Palace doubles and singles badminton tournament continued its pool play matches, while the MDX caging played its regular season games at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.

At the Oleai Sports Complex Field, M-League had its spring season matches, while the CNMI Men’s National Team challenged Ehime University in an exhibition game. Football matches were also played at the Hopwood Junior High School Field with teams in the girls U15 division of the NMIFA youth league seeing action in Week 5 of the competition.

In another youth competition, Vaskuu and Luther Lasagna won the Marianas Kids Cup, prevailing in the 4-person beach volleyball contest in the U17 and U13 age groups, respectively.
