Preparations for the 38th Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival has begun and surprises are to be expected this year.

The Flame Tree Arts Committee came together last Friday for their first meeting to kick off preparations of the most highly anticipated arts festival on Saipan.

According to Commonwealth Arts Council executive director Parker Yobei, there will be some surprises this year and one of them will be the featured performances.

Yobei said that the Arts Council will be working with the Marianas Visitors Authority to bring in off-island performers from Korea, Japan, and China.

The event is scheduled for April 11-14 and will include games and educational workshops. The 38th Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival will also feature 64 local artists.

The registration for participating artists and vendors starts on Feb. 25 and will end on March 30.

Yobei said there would be 24 canopies for food vendors and 64 canopies for artists and artisans.

For more information about artist registration, call Faye McMahon at 322-9982/83. For vendor registration, call Erica Trinidad at 322-9982/83. For interested talents who wish to perform at the festival, contact Gordon Marciano at 287-1195.
