DPS receives container of relief donation from Guam

The CNMI Department of Public Safety recently received a container of donated items from Guam, which the department will then turn over to local authorities that are handling the relief efforts in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu in October 2018.

The department was assisted in receiving the donation by the office of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Guam Sen. Wil Castro.

Acting CNMI DPS commissioner Robert Guerrero, DPS counselor Grace Sablan Vaiage, and all DPS personnel all volunteered to make this effort possible.

The donations came from local businesses and generous families in Guam, who looked to continue assisting those who were affected by Yutu.

Guerrero, along with DPS personnel, were present to accept the container this past Thursday, stating that the department is thankful for the continued partnership between the Governor’s Office, CNMI law enforcement and the office of Castro.

“Although, much of the relief efforts for typhoon Yutu have begun to slow down, our department, along with its officers and personnel, continue to look for ways we are able to care for our community. Being tasked with public safety presents our officers with two responsibilities, one being to protect the citizens ensuring safety, and the other being to continuously look out for the community they serve. Our officers may seem strict at all times but deep down they all carry big hearts,” said Guerrero.

“We all must work together as one community in the continuous efforts of bringing the Marianas back to normalcy. On behalf of the CNMI Department of Public Safety we would like to thank all who continue to keep the Mariana Islands and its community in their ongoing efforts of care and generosity,” he added in a separate statement. 

The department looks to host a community outreach event for the public, once weather permits. The community outreach event is a chance for our youth and community members to meet the officers, and ask common questions, in hopes of bringing the department closer to the community.
