Pacific Historic Parks continues its National Endowment for the Arts Big Read celebration of When the Emperor was Divine by Julie Otsuka with Book +Bento on Friday, Feb. 15, at 1pm at the Northern Marianas College library.

This event is presented in partnership with the National Park Service, Northern Marianas College, and the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.

The event will feature a video introduction to the book from author, Julie Otsuka. Following the video will be a book talk and short film on the Japanese relocation and internment camps in connection with the book.

Pacific Historic Parks education specialist Jovannalyn Mafnas credits this event to PHP’s partnership with Samuel Crawford, NMC’s director of Library Programs and Services, “and we hope to continue our partnership with future programs.”

The public is invited to participate in the event by visiting the NMC library during the scheduled time.

A national initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens the understanding of the world, one’s communities, and onesself through the joy of sharing a good book.
