The Guam Army National Guard’s Recruiting and Retention Battalion competed and were recognized on Jan. 30 during the recent R&R Force Leadership and Director’s 54 Annual Training and Awards Conference at the Bolger Center in Potomac, Maryland.
The Guam Guard earned three major awards for the Small States Category, which consists of 23 states and territories in the U.S.:
– The Retention Excellence Award for Fiscal Year 2018 (Small States);
– The National Guard Bureau HRR Top Recruiting and Retention for Fiscal Year 2018 (Small States); and
– 2019 NGB Quick Draw Challenge (Small States)
The Retention Excellence Award assesses the highest overall accomplishment in strength maintenance as measured by recruiting, retention, and attrition. Guam earned the award by focusing recruiting efforts on filling unit vacancies and focusing attrition management and retention efforts on reducing turnover and maintaining more qualified soldiers in their units.
The National Guard Bureau’s Recruiting and Retention Headquarters’ Top Recruiting and Retention Award for fiscal year 2018 recognized Guam’s achievements atop all 23 in the Small States category.
For the HRR Quick Draw Challenge for fiscal year 2019, states were challenged during the time period of Nov. 1, 2018, to Jan. 11, 2019, to improve recruiting efforts from the same time period during the previous year. Guam took first place for the Small States and was awarded a framed replica of Gen. George Washington’s flintlock pistol.
Lt. Col. Charles Douglas, commander of the Guam Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion, was quick to credit the soldiers for the accomplishments. “Their dedication and teamwork [were] evident as they continue to perform admirably. I am very proud they were recognized as tops in the field.” (PR)
