Each year, members of the U.S. Congress are charged with nominating top candidates from their home state or territory, ensuring the best and the brightest are considered for admission to the nation’s leading service academies. These schools are the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Nominations are based on factors such as academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical aptitude, character and motivation. For school year 2019-2020, there is only one slot available for students from the Northern Mariana Islands at each academy.
Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) announced his nomination of Wilgene C. Lieto II, a senior at Grace Christian Academy, to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Lieto said he was initially shocked when he found out about the nomination. “It is an extremely humbling experience to receive something of this honor. I am thankful to Congressman Kilili for believing in me and my family for their support and all they have done for me. I hope I can make them all proud.”
The Grace Christian Academy administration, staff/faculty and student body would like to congratulate Lieto for receiving this prestigious congressional nomination. (PR)
