Man in alleged machete attack pleads guilty
The man who allegedly slapped and attacked another man with a machete has pleaded guilty.
Daniel Shadel, 33, pleaded guilty yesterday to assault and battery and disturbing the peace and was sentenced to 364 days in prison.
His sentence was suspended except for the 31 days he has already served.
Shadel was also sentenced to probation for 364 days and was required to pay court fees, probation fees, and to served 100 hours of community service.
Shadel’s bail of $1,000 was exonerated.
Shadel was arrested last year for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
According to police, the victim was with some of his friends at a home of another friend in Koblerville on March 3, 2018, when Shadel arrived, slapped the victim in the face, retrieved a machete from his car, and allegedly swung the machete at the victim.
Another friend intervened and told Shadel to stop. Shadel returned the machete to his car but allegedly slapped the victim again.
Shadel left the house after seeing that the house’s owner had called the police. A police officer later found the vehicle and Shadel along Bibingka Avenue in Koblerville and arrested him at 4:33am that same day. The police report did not indicate the motive behind the attack.
