Borja endorses Barcinas

Former lieutenant governor Jessie C. Borja has endorsed Donald Barcinas as Precinct 3 representative.

Borja, who is the last Democrat to hold one of the two highest seats in the CNMI government, recently signified his support for Barcinas, who switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party just few months ago.

According to Borja, he endorses Barcinas not just because he has decided to join the Democratic Party, but because of Barcinas’ faith in the party despite its inactivity in previous years.

“I’d like to emphasize that Donald chose to ask to run under the Democratic Party. …It shows that Donald believes that the Democratic Party, although it has been sleeping for a while, is a viable party and it’s important that we have a strong two-party system in the CNMI. I’m proud of that. I think he is a good candidate. I was impressed when he came,” said Borja.

Borja believes that with a two-party system in place, the voice of the people could be heard and constituents would be given a say in the laws that govern them.

One of those laws Borja mentioned is the ban on cockfighting. According to Borja, there should have been a talks that included the community because cockfighting is considered part of the CNMI culture.

The special election for Precinct 3 representative is on March 23.
