Woman allegedly stabs man after he reportedly assaulted her
A man who was allegedly stabbed by his girlfriend after he reportedly assaulted her with a rifle has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
Anthony B. Cepeda, 48, who faces three charges after he allegedly hit his girlfriend with the butt of a rifle, pleaded not guilty yesterday to all three charges: assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace
Cepeda, through his court-appointed lawyer, asked for a jury trial and is scheduled to have a status conference on March 7.
The case is before Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert Naraja.
According to court information, police responded to a reported stabbing incident on Dec. 23, 2018, at 11:55am involving Cepeda and his girlfriend. Police and medics responded and met with a male, later identified as Cepeda. Cepeda had a small laceration under his left armpit but he refused medical treatment. He claimed he was the victim in the incident, but further investigation alleged that Cepeda’s girlfriend stabbed him after he allegedly assaulted her with the butt of a rifle.
A female at the scene, who later identified herself as Cepeda’s girlfriend, reportedly appeared to have scratch marks on her lower extremity, according to police observation.
Cepeda told police that his girlfriend pushed him out and tried to lock him out of their home. Cepeda said he then shoved the door open, walked over to his girlfriend, and shouted profanities at her.
Cepeda’s girlfriend told police that after the verbal altercation, he entered the residence and took what appeared to be a rifle and pointed it at her.
Cepeda’s girlfriend continued to tell police that Cepeda later turned the rifle on its butt and proceeded to hit her legs with it about 10 times.
Cepeda’s girlfriend told police that she was in so much pain and was shouting at Cepeda to stop and in an attempt to stop him from hitting her, she grabbed what was believed to be a knife and swung at Cepeda, causing him to stop hitting her and allowing her to run.
